BGL 1:1 stepped into my life at a time of great personal struggle and during a global pandemic. My business went to zero income overnight. My relationship was broken after discovering an affair and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to leave or stay but for the time being, we were isolated together and the emotional triggers were everywhere.
My anxiety was off the charts and I was extremely hopeless about my future.
I used to have an overactive, catastrophizing mind and have so many triggers that were ruining my days. My emotions were out of control and I was crying every day, disillusioned and sinking into depression tendencies. I wanted to achieve a calm, peaceful balance and be able to make decisions again. I wanted to ‘know’ what I wanted and hear my gut instinct.
Prior to BGL 1:1 I have tried headspace a little bit but couldn’t get into it. I didn’t grasp that it is about ‘practice’ so never kept it up long enough to see the benefit. I liked to learn and headspace didn’t teach me meditation so much as give me meditations to try. Without the fundamental understanding this course gives you about mindfulness and meditation, I didn’t get it.
BGL 1:1 gave me techniques that helped me reduce my anxiety and mind so that I could live more peacefully. It gave me an understanding of my mind so I could stop beating myself up and feeling bad for how I was thinking and feeling. It taught me to accept what is so that I could move forward. It helped me make changes and take control over what I could affect and helped me back into a more positive, optimistic, compassionate mind state. I make better choices for my health and wellbeing since doing the course and use all the techniques to better understand and misidentify with my mind so that I could function day to day and find some sense of calm. I am therefore able to communicate better to those around me and be happier with myself. I am both more considerate and compassionate of others but with stronger boundaries for my own benefit.
The 1:1 sessions were very focused, structured and I always came away feeling like I’d taken another important step forward. It never felt simply like ‘chatting’ as some coaching can. I also liked being able to cover the modules at my pace and the videos were really well-structured for bitesize learning. What I liked most though of course is the progress I have made in a matter of weeks. It has surpassed my expectation and I am delighted with that!
The combination of this course learning, the 10% happier app and yoga has been perfect for giving me a mix of inspiration, no fluff mindfulness and meditation, simple to understand instructions and the foundations to go on and make this a way of life.
