I’m a big believer that you don’t have to wait until you’re on a beach sipping coconut water from a pineapple to be happy. (Though your mind will often tell you that is the case).
With some tried and tested techniques, you can learn to love whatever life it is that you currently live.
And if you think you’ve been through too much for that to be possible, think again. (Or maybe don’t think so much). Take yourself to a third world country where the people have nothing. There you’ll find people happier than anyone you’ve ever met.
And if you’ve had a lot of trauma and/ or feel that life has been hard on you/ you’ve been a victim, you need to do the Landmark Forum, or one of many other transformational self development courses that will shift your perspective. Self development is the most important thing you’ll ever do.
It is often the strongest, happiest, most resilient people you know who have been through the most hardship
Don’t assume that everyone who is happy has had it easy or got “lucky” in life.
I generally find people who had it too easy to be some of the most unhappy, lost people I’ve ever met.
Having said all that, no matter how well things are going, I think a ‘restart’ every now and then is a great fast-track to get some perspective, some new inspiration, and to clean out some old mind-junk.
To do so, you need to go somewhere new, get away from wherever it is that you live and work – even just for a day or two – preferably somewhere with a load of nature.
This is where I usually go to restart.
My parent’s place in New Zealand. It’s my favourite place ever.
No matter how good life is or isn’t, we all need a change of scenery; to be pulled from our daily routine so that when we come back to it, we are reminded of the awesome things we have that we might have stopped noticing.
Next time you have a spare day or two, make sure you get away somewhere.
