The full story:

I was highly anxious and finding it really hard to relax. It couldn’t take my mind of things and felt a constant knot in my stomach & lump in my throat. I was worried about the future and unsure of my career path, my marriage and where I was going with my life. I knew I had to address how I was feeling so that I could be strong enough to make changes in my life in order to progress.

The course was recommended to me by a wellness & fitness coach. I did the 6 days to decisiveness challenge and really enjoyed the tips given in there. I enjoyed reading Andrea’s blog.

I could relate to a lot of what she wrote about and I liked her honest & quirky personality.

I had wanted to do a mindfulness course, signed up to one here in Christchurch but it was cancelled (I wasn’t really digging the teachers though, they seemed a bit dry in comparison to Andrea). I then received an email to do a discounted course with Andrea and decided to do it! It was an excellent decision!!

I have certainly learnt to quieten my chatty mind, or rather, learnt not to focus on it so much.

I am less anxious and a lot more aware of myself.

The snippets of science, biology and psychology explained in the course helped me to understand why my mind went to these crazy places. This helped a lot as I’ve had a crazy (and stressful) few years with earthquakes in Christchurch, my Dad passing away, living overseas, getting married, buying a home, a busy career etc. etc. A lot of what was happening in my life contributed to prolonged stress, which meant anxiety took over and it was all a vicious circle of madness.

BGL 101 has taught me techniques to calm the madness.

It taught me why I was experiencing anxiety. It taught me to accept the anxiety and know there was nothing wrong with it, purely a normal reaction to many things life has thrown at me.

Since doing the programme my mind is not as hectic as it was before. I am a lot more mindful during my day and take time to observe the world around me. I catch myself when I am spacing out much faster than I would have ever before. The course has also taught me that I’m not alone, lots of people go through what I experienced and that emotional and mental unhealthiness is something we all experience in life and mindfulness is a tool that can help us to deal with these moments when they come along.

My relationship is a lot happier.

We discuss the techniques I’ve learnt and my husband notices the difference in me. My reactions are more controlled and it makes for a happier marriage all round!

Information in the course was broken down and easy to understand, well explained and the workbooks were great for processing that information. The online training videos were very helpful: short, sharp & to the point! They are also valuable to have when I need to return to them in the future.

It was great to complete the assessment at the beginning and end of the course, I liked to see the changes I had made. The quizzes were fun for me – I’m a goody two shoes and liked to get all the answers right!!

The reiteration of ideas and techniques through course was very helpful too.

The module resources were really good, I enjoyed them and found it was good to hear the same concepts from different people.
